Lucille May Newberry (Severance)
Lucille May Newberry, 97, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Boschway AFC Home. She was born May 3, 1922 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Ashley) Severance. Lucille married Maurice Newberry on July 7, 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1987. She spent her working career in the medical field as an LPN working for many hospitals and nursing facilities, retiring from the Battle Creek VA Medical Center after 5 plus years of service. Lucille was an incredible oil painter. She loved sharing her creations with her friends and family and some of her paintings have even made their way out of the country. She was an impeccable seamstress; crocheting, cross stitch, and designing numerous clothing items. She was a member of Pleasantview Family Church. Lucille had a generous heart and the kindest soul and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Lucille’s family would like to give a special thank you to Boschway AFC and their staff for their wonderful care!
She is survived by her children, Beverly (Jim Carey) Converse, Daniel Newberry, Rodney (Carolyn) Newberry, Maurine (Lee Tracy) Knapper, and Julie (Gary) Easey; siblings, Jacquie Whidby, Arleta Mack, Wes Severance, Erma Hensel, and Denise Cook; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, Sr.; children, Paul Newberry, Maurice Newberry, Jr., and Gloria Mansfield; sons-in-law, William Cooley, Thomas Knapper, and Thomas Mansfield; daughter-in-law, Jo-Ann Newberry; grandchildren, Terri Hare, Marc Belcher, and Kimberly Newberry; great grandchildren, Shawna Hare and Gordon Hare III; siblings, Genny Cumback, Winifred Langbridge, Charles Severance, and Phyllis Birman; and special friend, Wilford Ripley.
Visitation will be held Sunday, June 2nd from 4:00-6:00 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Pleasantview Family Church with Pastor Steven S. Olmstead officiating. Burial will be at the Bedford Cemetery in Bedford Township, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to Pleasantview Family Church.
