It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Clarence LeVerne Stanton, age 72, announces the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, cousin, uncle and friend at his home in Battle Creek on Thursday, September 6, 2018. He had been seriously ill for the past year.
He was born July 15, 1946 in Lakeview, MI the son of William Clarence Stanton and Beatrice (Everett) Stanton. He was raised by his sister: Sarah “Sandy” Bedford, when he was 3 years old after his parents died and referred to her as his "mother" - Sandy Bedford and his “father” – Manley Bedford.
He graduated from Alpena High School in 1965. Clarence came to Battle Creek from Alpena after the military. He served in the U S Army as a Specialist 4th Class from 1966 to 1969. He was a Laborer for United Steel and Wire for 35 years, until they closed in 2008.
He married Patricia Ann Traut in Battle Creek, MI on May 26, 1973. Clarence enjoyed watching TV Westerns, loved yard work, traveling and he was the best grandpa to his grandchildren & great granddaughter, he was a member of the UAW local union
Surviving Clarence is his wife of 45 years: Patricia A. Stanton of Battle Creek, MI; his brother: Milo "Mike" Stanton of Newaygo, MI; three sisters: Bonnie Thompson of Alpena, MI; Starrla & Jim Opferman of Fort Gratiot, MI; Brenda Olsen of Alpena, MI; his daughter: Angela Stanton of Battle Creek; his son: Craig & Charissa Stanton of Onondaga, MI; three grandchildren and great grand-daughter
He was predeceased by both parents in 1949, seven sisters; Sandy Bedford, Mae Roseberry, Helen Cooper, Margaret Kinsley, Luella Lower, Barbara Beaudre and Kitty Middaugh; and one brother: Bert Stanton.
Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 10:30 AM with Pastor Bill Cole of Oaklawn Hospice officiating. Inurnment at the Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to: Oaklawn Hospice or the Veteran Helping Veterans (354 North 27th Street, Springfield, MI 49037. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, a member by invitation Selected Independent Funeral Homes.
