Wafiya Foote
Wafiya (Farag) Foote, 69, of Battle Creek passed away January 10, 2018 in La Jolla, CA. Fifi, as she was most often known to family and friends, was born in Amman, Jordan on February 10, 1948 to parents Shafeek and Wadia (Fargo) Farag who immigrated to the U.S.A. when she was 6 months old. Fifi grew up in the Chicago, IL area where she attended Riverside Brookfield High School. She went on to graduate with her Bachelors in Science from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo in 1970. After her marriage to Charles W. Foote of Battle Creek in June of 1969, she stayed home to raise their three children until they became of school age. At that time Fifi began her teaching career and taught at Battle Creek Academy for over 17 years. During this time she earned her Masters Degree in Education from Nazareth College in Kalamazoo. Fifi was an accomplished pianist who enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family who were her greatest source of joy.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; children, Angela (Greg) Gryte, Alana (Michael) Tucker, and Charles J. (Melissa) Foote; grandchildren, Garren, Elyana, & Gabriel Gryte, Rafe, Zara, & Lilia Tucker, and Simon Foote; mother, Wadia; and sister, Huda (Jim) McClelland.
She was preceded in death by her father, Shafeek; and an infant son.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 30th at 3:00 PM at Battle Creek Seventh Day Adventist Tabernacle. Memorial donations may be made to Battle Creek Academy, New Start Children’s Home, and/or The American Cancer Society.
