Obituary for Bernice L. Johnson (Stweart)

Bernice Lucille Johnson, 96, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Bronson at Home Hospice. She was born October 19, 1919 in Ithaca, MI the daughter of Oscar and Edith (Long) Stewart. Bernice married the late Lyle H. Johnson on August 21, 1938 in Calhoun County, MI. She was a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was very active in her church, always volunteering and participating, especially when it came to the Live Nativity the church held every year. She was involved in the church’s Unity Circle, United Methodist Women, and was once the Sunday School Supervisor and Youth Group Leader. Bernice enjoyed watching birds and wildlife, taking rides in the country and up north, and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Carolyn "Kay" Brazie, Linda L. Ferris, Diana (Ischmail) Osborne, and Thom (Kathy) Johnson; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; and 2 grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday from 5:00-8:00 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Pastor Rick Foster of Country Chapel United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be at the Banfield Cemetery in Johnstown Twp., MI. Memorial tributes may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or Bronson at Home Hospice.
