Obituary for
Louis O'Daniel
It is with a great deal of sadness that the family of Louis Archie O’Daniel age 86, announces the passing of our dear husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend on Saturday, November 24, 2012. Louis passed peacefully into His Father’s Heavenly Home at the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence surrounded by his family.
He was born November 13, 1926 in Lebanon, KY the son of Joseph S. O'Daniel and Nannie (O'Daniel) O’Daniel.
Louis was a farmer raising corn, soybean, wheat, hogs and cattle. He was raised on the family farm in Kentucky and continued farming his entire life.
He graduated from St. Charles High School in Lebanon, KY; then Louis received his bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry from Colorado A & M (now known as Colorado State University in Fort Collins). He worked as a lamb buyer for Swift and Company in Chicago, IL; Omaha, NE; and Ogden, UT. He came to Michigan in 1958
as a cattle buyer for Michigan Livestock Exchange, Detroit, MI. He was transferred to Battle Creek in 1959.
He belonged to St. Philip Catholic Church. He was a member of Michigan Pork Producers, Michigan Cattleman's Association, Texas Cattle Feeders Association, and Michigan Farm Bureau.
Louis married Kay Velzing at Our Lady of Perpetual Help on August 27, 1955 in Glenview, Illinois.
Louis is survived by his wife; a daughter: Mary Lynn & Dick Coughlin of Saginaw, MI; five sons: Michael & Glenna O'Daniel of Milford, UT; Thomas & Ellen O'Daniel of Malaysia; David & Ann O'Daniel of Eaton Rapids, MI; Christopher "Chris" O'Daniel of East Leroy, MI; Gregory & Mary O'Daniel of Davisburg, MI; a sister: Joree & Dick White of Hershey, PA; two brothers: Jeff & Rita O'Daniel of Lebanon, KY; Bill & Jean O'Daniel of Poway, CA; nine grandchildren - Melanie & Shawn Depcinski; Stephen Coughlin; Lucas O’Daniel; Sarah O’Daniel; Glenys O'Daniel; Patrick O'Daniel
Matthew O’Daniel; Timothy O’Daniel; and Mark O’Daniel.
He was preceded in death by parents and infant brother: Felix O'Daniel
Visitation will be held at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service after 10 AM Thursday, November 29, 2012 where the family will be present from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM and 5:00-7:00 PM. The Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home chapel Thursday evening at 7:00 PM with Deacon Hal Bohan officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 at 10:30 AM at the St. Philip Catholic Church with Rev. Father John Fleckenstein, celebrant. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to: St. Philip Catholic Church or the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
