Stella Louise Knight, 95, passed away in the loving arms of her husband on November 9, 2018. She was born the daughter of John and Clara (Purser) DeVault on January 28, 1923 in Dayton, TN. She married her husband of 74 years, Wilburn Stephen Knight on April 3, 1944 in Georgia. Stella was affectionately known as “Grannie” to her family. Stella and Web, moved from Tennessee to the industrial north, settling in Battle Creek, MI. Stella worked for the Kellogg Company for 25 years before her retirement. She was a member of the United Methodist Church for 70 plus years. She enjoyed gardening and the countless friendships that she made at her vegetable stand. But mostly she enjoyed spending time with family and taking care of her husband. Grannies family thanks God for truly sending them one of a kind.
She is survived by her children, Martha Engle and Stephen (JoAnn) Knight; sisters, Mary Lou (Don) Smith and Kathy DeVault; grandchildren, Tedd Engle, Stephanie (Chad) Lyons, Leslie (Mark) Nabozny, Nicholas Hannar, Ashley Wendland, Cody (Kim) Knight, and Rindy (Brad) Handy; great-grandchildren, Jackie (Justin Jones) Engle, Jordan Gebben, Jacob Lyons, Justin Lyons, Justine McCowan, Tyler Nabozny, Mason Nabozny, Lillie Smith, Izzie Wendland, Lincoln Wendland, Katie Knight, Ben Knight, Cara Knight, Neia Handy, and Gideon Handy; great great grandchildren, Summer and Cameron Bhola.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Irene DeVault; ten brothers; three sisters; and great granddaughter, Brandi Bailee McCowan.
Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Monday from 5:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:30 AM with a visitation an hour prior at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Burial will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, MI. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital or Great Lakes Caring Hospice.
