Obituary for Mike V. Forshey

Mike V. Forshey
It is with sadness that we announce the unexpected death of Michael Vern “Mike” Forshey, age 61, of Battle Creek, on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Mike passed away at Bronson Battle Creek after a motor vehicle accident.
Mike was born June 27, 1957 in Battle Creek, the son of Norman Lee Forshey and Mary Jane (Meade) Forshey.
He was a part of ROSC when it first started, and he worked for many years at the Alano Club. Last year he started working at Recovery Services Unlimited as a Recovery Coach. Mike loved life and had a huge passion for the Recovery Community. This loss will be greatly impacted by the men he was working with and all of us who loved him.
Mike worked for the GTWR (Grand Trunk Western Railroad) as a conductor. He graduated in 1975 Pennfield High School where he was an All Star athlete.
He married Jill Van Zandt on March 20, 1998. He is survived by his wife: Jill Forshey of Battle Creek; his step-son: Matthew Corrigan and Brianna Schraft of Delray Beach, Florida; his mother: Mary Forshey of Battle Creek; sister: Nanci Forshey of Kentwood, MI; nephews: Jeff (Amanda) Altoft; Matt (Britney) Altoft; Craig Bowman; aunts & uncles: Bob and Earline DePauw; Art and Della Meade; Dick and Diana Meade; sister-in-laws: Sue (Fred) Bachman of Battle Creek; Donna (Joe) Jurs of Rockledge, FL; nieces: Jennifer (David) Grace, Sarah (John) Boven, Marcelle Bowman (Ben LaMarca); and his furry creatures at home of Ella and Yoda and numerous great nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father: Norman Forshey.
Mike was a member of the Alano Club of Battle Creek and was a very spiritual man. He took pride in his yard along with his wife Jill. He loved nature, especially feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels. He was a wildlife and domestic animal lover. He was a huge Michigan football fan, he supported the Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers. He cherished his family. He enjoyed playing cards and having get togethers at the house. He always enjoyed fishing with his dad, and their Sunday football picks. He had a good sense of humor and liked to make people laugh, and was known for his huge smile and big hugs.
Visitation will be held at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, Monday, October 1, 2018 from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM. Funeral services commemorating Mike’s life will be held Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 10:30 AM in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jim Sparks officiating. Cremation will follow. Memorial tributes may be made to: the Calhoun County Animal Shelter; the National Wildlife Federation; or Alano Club of Battle Creek.
