Obituary for Richard Leroy "Spike" Spyker Sr.

Richard L. Spyker Sr., 80, of Battle Creek after an 8-year battle with illness, went home to be with the Lord. He was born March 18, 1938 in Battle Creek. The son of Earnest and Lois Marie (Walker) Spyker. Richard, affectionately known as Spike, graduated from Lakeview High School class of 1957 where he sang acapella Choir. He married his true love Lois Ann Adkins on January 10, 1960 in Battle Creek. Spike worked as a Die Setter at GM Fisher body in Kalamazoo for 26 years before his retirement. From his earliest years he was a huge outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and golf. Spike had a passion for golf and was an excellent teacher for those who wanted to learn. He loved his family and friends with a fierce love for his 4 Grandchildren. Spike’s grandchildren always were the light of his life. He was a member of Overflow Church. Spike wanted everyone to know that if he could quit smoking and drinking in 24 hours with the help of the lord that anyone could.
He is survived by his loving wife Lois Ann Spyker, Children, Jane (Terry) Groves, Richard (Julie) Spyker Jr. and Robyn (Brian) Galley; grandchildren, Auston & Ashlyn, Tyler & Carsen; Brother, Leonard (Lois M) Spyker; Nephews, Stephen, Marvin & Stuart and many Cousins and Friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Earnest and Lois Marie.
Visitation will be held Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Bachman Hebble. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Davis of Overflow Church officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI. The memorial tributes may be made to Kambly Living Center.
