Obituary for William A. Niergarth

It is with tremendous sadness that the family of William A. “Bill” Niergarth, age 60, announces the passing of our dear brother, cousin, nephew, fraternity brother and friend on Monday, April 9, 2018 at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA. Bill had recently lived in Rydal, PA and was formerly from the Lansing and Adrian, MI area. He would visit his grandparents in Battle Creek when he was a youngster.
He was born September 15, 1957 in Adrian, MI to Marjorie Niergarth; and his foster parents of Clarence J. and Mildred “Louise” (Grisham) Alford.
Bill was raised in Adrian, and then moved with his family to Lansing where he graduated from Lansing Everett High School in 1975. He then attended Michigan State University receiving his BA in Communication in 1979. He graduated from Georgetown University with a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1986. During college he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity where he served as a Treasurer.
Bill had worked as a financial consultant for Chrysler Motors, Price Waterhouse, and later IBM and eventually was an independent financial adviser. He never married. He enjoyed skiing trips, was a talented artist painting in oils, was a self-taught piano player and played piano by ear.
Bill is survived by his sister Venita Alford of Salem, Oregon; sister-in-law: Susan Alford of OK; niece: Suzanne Hawkins of OK; nephew: Michael Alford of OK; cousins include: Peggy and Dan Jucius of Kenosha, WI; Steve and Hyeson Jucius of Kenosha; Mike and Chris Jucius of Kenosha; Kris and Tom Overocker of Kenosha; special friends Sandra S. Kinsey of Lansdale, PA, Pastor Rick Beemer of South Lyon, MI, and Michelle Seeman of Media, PA. He was preceded in death by his mother, foster parents and brother: Richard Alford.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 Noon in the Chapel of Oak Hill Cemetery, 255 South Avenue, Battle Creek, MI. Funeral services will be conducted by Ref. Rick Beemer of the Oak Pointe Church, Novi, MI officiating along with a special memorial tribute by the men of Sigma Chi. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI.
