Eric Duane “Rick” Gerber, 71, of Dowling, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center. He was born December 23, 1946 in Battle Creek, the son of Arthur Wayne and Leolyn Aileen (Palmiter) Gerber. Eric graduated from Hastings High School in 1965. He served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged. Eric started in the work force at E.W. Bliss Co., working there for15 years before moving on to Kellogg Co. He retired from Kellogg Co. after 28 years of service in 2009. Eric married Judy Janes on July 31, 1971. He was a member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club, Southern Michigan Amateur Radio Society, Hastings Flying Assoc., Experimental Aircraft Assoc., and the Aircraft Owners & Pilot Association. He enjoyed working in his machine shop, flying, and operating Amateur radios.
He is survived by his parents, Arthur and Leolyn; wife, Judy; son, David (Renee) Gerber; brother, Joel Gerber; sister, Rita (Alan) Zinke; grandchildren, Christopher and Jensen Bush; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bruce Gerber and father and mother-in-law, Robert (Anna) Janes.
Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Monday from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 PM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Pastor Steven S. Olmstead of Pleasantview Family Church officiating. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Homer, MI.
