Obituary for Frances Jean Buckner (Clark)






Frances “Jean” Buckner, age 88, of Battle Creek, died Saturday March 3, 2018 at Rose Arbor Hospice of Kalamazoo. Jean was born September 9, 1929 in Durand, Michigan to Alfred L. and Reva Belle (Allen) Clark Sr. and moved to Battle Creek as a third grader. Frances graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1947 where she was active in sports and was the girls’ sports editor for the High School year book. Frances married Ronald Gordon Buckner on October 12, 1947 in Battle Creek; he preceded her in death on October 16, 1998. She worked at J.C. Penny, F. W. Woolworths, SS Kresge and retired in 1988 from the Kellogg Co. after 36 years of service. Frances loved playing slow pitch softball and enjoyed working outdoors. When the kids were young, she was active in the Cub Scouts and Bluebird Campfire Club where she served as a Campfire Leader. Frances was a former member of Westlake Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Church Choir and Celtic Choir. She was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and was a collector of Pete Rose memorabilia. Frances is survived by her children, Gordon (Elizabeth) Buckner of Thornton, CO, Karen (Raymond) Eddy, of Allen, TX. and Gary (Marcia) Buckner , of Allegan, MI, four grandchildren, Michael Buckner, Heather Eddy, Stephanie Anderson, and Kristen Eddy, three great grandchildren, Patrick Buckner , Jaxson Anderson , and Casey Buckner. She was preceded in death by her four brothers, Alfred Clark Jr., Jason Clark, Russell “Dale” Clark, and Gaylord “Jack” Clark. Private family services will be held. Memorials may be given to the ASPCA, or the Salvation Army. Arrangements are by Bachman Hebble Funeral Service.
