Margaret Marie Reed, 79, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018 at The Oaks at Northpointe Woods. She was born July 10, 1938 in Chattanooga, TN the daughter of Doyle and Flora (Smith) Thurman. Margaret married the late Ernest Alex Reed, Jr. on January 31, 1956 in Battle Creek. She worked at Max 10 for 15 years, working her way to management before her retirement. Before that, Margaret worked at the Moose Lodge for many years. One of Margaret’s favorite pastimes was playing Bingo. She was always on the go, never stopping. She enjoyed spending time with her family, always traveling from one family member’s house to another saying, “Just checking to see what you were doing.” Not a day went by where she didn’t go visit her mother. And when anyone visited Margaret, she always had a fresh pot of coffee brewing. Margaret’s biggest quality was her Heart of Gold! She was very caring and sincere to everyone she met. She was also known for her big smile, contagious laugh, and willingness to help anyone she could. She always was the first one to say “YES” when anyone asked her for anything!
She is survived by her mother, Flora; children, Doyle Reed, Diane (Mike) Hempsted, Duane Reed, and Tina (Alan) Gibson; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Doyle; husband, Ernest; daughter-in-law, Sherri Reed; sister, Silvia Mendez; and brother, Robert Thurman.
Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Thursday from 12:00-2:00 PM with a committal service to follow and begin at 2:30 PM at the Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel. Memorial tributes may be made to the funeral home toward funeral expenses.
