Obituary for Robert Addison Owen



Robert “Bob” A. Owen, age 89, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday January 23, 2018 at the Heritage Assisted Living Community in Battle Creek. Bob was born November 30, 1928 in Battle Creek to Addison and M. Mabel (Turner) Owen and was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek. Bob was a 1947 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School where he lettered in Baseball, Basketball, and Cross Country. He married the former Norma Corwin in 1974. Bob had been employed by the Battle Creek Enquirer for over 40 years, retiring in 1987. He was a Past President of the Battle Creek Area Amateur Sports Association, BCAASA Wall of Fame, AABC man of the Year, member of the Battle Creek High School Hall of Fame and received a George Award for his work with the Stan Musial World Series. Bob‘s life was sports, but especially baseball. Everyone knew he would be at the front gate to welcome them to the Stan Musial each year! Bob is survived by his children from his marriage to Erdine Warren Owen Lewis, daughter, Becky (Bernie) Squires, of Battle Creek, sons, Bob (Deborah) Owen of East Lansing, John (Kathy) Owen of Battle Creek ,and Terry Owen of Saginaw. He is also survived by step daughters, Marti (Mike) Darrow of Onekama, MI, and Rebecca Morrison of Battle Creek, stepson, Randy Morrison of Salisbury, MD, 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and a brother, Rodger (Pat) Owen of Battle Creek. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Norma in 2017. The family will receive friends from 4:00PM to 6:00PM Sunday at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Assisted Living and Great Lakes Hospice, for their care.
