Obituary for Dona Ruth Dunn (Stow)

Dona Ruth (Stow) Dunn, age 92, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away on November 30, 2017 at her home with family by her side. Dona was born January 21, 1925 to Darwood and Ruth (Court) Stow, at home in Newton Twp. She was a 1942 graduate of Battle Central High School. After graduation Dona worked for 5 ½ years in the office of the Sherriff-Goslin Roofing Company, as a secretary. On February 8, 1947 Dona married the love of her life, Earl Edward Dunn. The enjoyed 64 years of marriage and raised four children. They were dairy farmers north of Battle Creek and were inducted into the Farmers Hall of Fame in 1994. After retiring from farming, they spent 30 of their last winters in Bradenton, FL playing tournament shuffleboard four days a week. Dona and Earl were instrumental in getting the shuffleboard club started at Bailey Park, where they were found three nights a week during the summer months. Dona served as president and secretary of the club for years. In 2017 both Dona and Earl were inducted into the Florida Shufflers Hall of Fame. Together they grew and sold sweetcorn for many years. They enjoyed seeing their neighbors and had many repeat customers from miles away each year. Earl preceded her in death in 2011. In the summer, Dona loved being surrounded by family and friends at the picnic area down by the fish ponds. Dona also enjoyed Sudoku and Crossword puzzles. Dona enjoyed and continued to mow her own grass even into her 90’s. Donna is survived by her children: Daughter Sybil (Douglas) Nearpass, of Coldwater; sons Ezra (Janan) Dunn, Peter (Marilyn) Dunn and Daughter Peggy (Stephen) Osborn, all of Battle Creek; one brother, Darwood Stow Jr. of Mt. View, Arkansas; grandchildren Peter (Miranda) Dunn, Chad (Terri) Osborn, Rayann Osborn, Krystle Dunn, Lyndsay (Scott) LaRue, and Sarah (Aaron) Fulsome; Dona also has 11 great grandchildren. Dona was preceded in death by her husband Earl, her parents, two sisters; Mary Margaret Stow (infant) and Ona Marie Armstrong. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday at the funeral home.
