Lula (Perkins) Grimes, age 76, of Battle Creek, died Friday November 10, 2017 at the Cor Mariae Center of Rockford Il, where she had resided with her son. Lula was born March 17, 1941 in Battle Creek, to John and Bernadine (Montgomery) Mitchell. Lula attended Battle Creek Schools and Kellogg Community College. Lula had been employed at Clark Equipment Co., Springhill Nursing Home, and retired from the Visiting Nurse Service. Lula was a lifetime member of the Maranatha Original Church of God and had served as a Trustee and usher. Lula is survived by her sons, David E. (Trina) Perkins Jr. of Battle Creek, William E. Perkins, of Rockford IL, and Duane A. Perkins, of Columbus, GA. her twin sister, Lela Brown, of Battle Creek and a brother, Donald (Paula) Mitchell of Portage, MI, stepchildren, Rosetta Tucker of Akron, OH, Melvin Grimes of Los Angeles, CA, Gwen Allen Of Lansing, MI. Sandra (James) Hamilton, of New Orleans, LA, Howard Grimes, Lamary Flagg, Edward “DD” Grimes, Michael Grimes and LaJan Grimes all of Memphis, TN, and special son, Robert O. McCray Jr. of Columbus GA. and eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Lula was preceded in death by her husband Leroy Grimes, a daughter, Debra L. Perkins-Broughton, sisters, Theola (Ted) Brown, and Lena “Pat” James. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday at the Maranatha Original Church of God, 400 Waubascon Rd. Memorials may be given to the Maranatha Original Church of God.
