Jennifer Lynette Mary "Poohie" Corby

Life Story for Jennifer Lynette Mary "Poohie" Corby

Jennifer L. Corby, age 30, of Battle Creek, died Monday September 4, 2017 at her home. Jennifer also known to her family and friends as “Poohie” was born July 18, 1987 in Portsmouth, VA. to Michael and Sherri (Bissett) Corby. Jennifer had attended the Doris Klaussen Developmental Center from the age of three and graduated in 2013. Jennifer was courageous during her many life battles and never let her physical challenges dampen her wonderful and happy spirit. Jennifer enjoyed many activities with her loving family especially eating chocolate cake and roller-skating from her wheelchair and loved attending school. Jennifer’s strong will and determination was an inspiration to those who were fortunate enough to know her. Jennifer is survived by her mother, Sherri (Mark) Gregory, of Battle Creek, her father, Michael (Theresa) Corby of Athens, sisters, Jennelle (Kasondra Cole) Corby, of Battle Creek, Savanna and Haillie Gregory of Battle Creek and stepbrother, Troy Cole, of Colon, MI.

Special thanks for the many years of Pennfield and Battle Creek Public Schools Bus Drivers who took great care of her during transportation to and from school.
.
Jennifer had a special love for animals and littles babies. They always made her smile and laugh.
Jennifer's disabilities were the result of being hit by a drunk driver while still in the womb. Her best friend and sister Jennelle, has always been her biggest advocate, teaching her friends, her loved ones, and even strangers the consequences of drinking and driving.
Jennifer's Daddy always had a way to bring out the sunshine in Jennifer's smile. Just the mention of "where's daddy" would bring a smile to her face and make her look in every direction until she finally spotted him. Giggles and squirming about with excitement was a gift we'll never forget.
Step dad Mark, stepped into a role that not many men would. He always made sure that Jennifer had everything she needed. From feeding her, to maintaining backup generators for her ventilator, to giving shots and medication. He made several sacrifices to make sure someone was always with her so that others could go on and enjoy a normal life. He loved her as if she were his own. His family always treated her as their own and showed love and compassion, and for that we are blessed and thankful. Sisters, Savanna and Haillie loved their sister Poohie, and even from a very young age took on roles of caregiver. Like little nurses, learning the machines, and looking after her. Her special service dog would "go check on Poohie" licking her hands and making her laugh and giggle.
A very special thank you to all who have continually prayed for Jennifer, especially Mike and Linda Timmons, and members of Baseline United Methodist Church.
To my darling daughter, Jennifer. You have been my whole world and my lifeline. I love you and will forever hold you in my heart. You will always be my little "Pooh Bear" Love Mommy
