Annette Ruth Verwey (Wilkinson)
Annette R. Verwey, age 93, of Battle Creek, died Wednesday July 26th 2017, at her home. Annette was born July 6, 1924, in Janesville, Wisconsin, to Charles and Gladys (Bodoh) Wilkinson. She was a 1942 graduate of Janesville High School, and she attended Swedish American Hospital School of Nursing,in Rockford, IL graduating in 1945. Annette came to Battle Creek as a young women to work as a nurse at the former Percy Jones Hospital. She met Robert D.Verwey there and they married December 26th 1948. Annette lived in the Gull Lake and Augusta area while she was employed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center as a nurse for 33 years, retiring in 1987. She then lived in Galesburg from 1974 to 2003 and then came to Battle Creek to live with her daughter, Barbara. Annette was a former member of the Augusta Bible Baptist Church and is a current member of Grace Community Church. Annette enjoyed gardening, needlework, crossword puzzles, traveling, playing games of all varieties, and was a great rollercoaster enthusiast. Annette’s favorite times was when she was with her loving family, doing her favorite things. Annette is survived by her son, Dirk Verwey, of Schoolcraft, a daughter Barbara (Robert) Westworth of Battle Creek, grandchildren, Bruce (Peggy) Verwey of Schoolcraft, James and Robert P. Westworth, both of Battle Creek and Kari (Bubba) Spicer of Vicksburg, MI, Ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Annette was preceded in death by her parents, her husband , Robert D. Verwey in 1974, a son, Robert Verwey Jr. in 1952, a daughter, Jannette Newton in 2006 , a granddaughter , Andrea Loucks in 2017, sisters Gladys Wilkinson, Dorothy Creek, Lorraine Bushaw , and Yvonne Wilkinson, brothers, Raymond and Robert Wilkinson. Memorials may be given to Grace Community Church or Southwest Michigan Hospice.
