Vondella R. Strowbridge, age 87, went home to the Lord on May 30, 2017, where she is now “Singing with the Angels”. Vondella was born to Wilbur and Mary (Malcolm) Miller on January 27, 1930 in Albion. She moved to Battle Creek as a child where she would spend the rest of her life. Vondella married the love of her life for 50 years, Walter D. Strowbridge, in 1948. He preceded her in death. Vondella was a foster care mother for many years and gave home to countless babies and toddlers before they found their own homes. Her big passion in life was caring for other people and she cared for many friends and relatives over her life. The church and Lord became a big part of her life many years ago and she never looked back. Vondella was an active member of Maple United Methodist Church until her passing, where she sang in the choir and served on many committees. In addition, she was a member of the Burnham Brook Singers and the Valentine Singers for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, father and stepmother, Wilbur and Mary Miller, her mother and stepfather, Mary and Verl Slain, and stepmother Grace Miller. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Miller. Her best friend for over 70 years, Geraldine Lynn and her favorite aunt Betty Warner also preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughter, Sharon (Craig) Cowles, of Cordova, TN, a son, Dan (Sue) Strowbridge, of Battle Creek, a sister, Betty Jean (Jerry) Szyssko, of Coopersville, MI, two grandchildren, three great children and two great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind countless friends and relatives who loved her dearly. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Thursday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Friday at the funeral home. Interment will take place Tuesday June 6th at 12:00 PM Noon, Rev. Linda Stoddard, officiating.
