Obituary for Walter Louis Thompson







Walter L. Thompson, age 80, of Battle Creek, died Tuesday May 16, 2017 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. Walt was born December 31, 1936 in Battle Creek, to Joseph and Edna (Seaver) Thompson. Walt attended Battle Creek Schools and Kellogg Community College. He married the former Mable West in 1954. Walt had been employed by Hanna Block Co., A.K. Zinn Co. and retired in 1998 from the city of Battle Creek after over thirty years of service. Walt had supervised the city’s waste water treatment plant for many years as well as the Bellevue plant for 3 years. Walt was a troop leader for the Boy Scout Troop #374, he also enjoyed watching baseball games, trying different kinds of ethnic foods, and hunting. Walt’s greatest joy came from being an active and involved father and grandfather. He loved attending his grandchildren’s school functions or driving them where they needed to be. Walt is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mable, a son, Walter L. (Kristen) Thompson Jr., of Converse Twp. a daughter, Connie M. (Mike) Rose, of Battle Creek, sons, Steven M. (Sandy) Thompson, of Charlotte, and William A. Thompson, of Battle Creek, nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, special friends, Betsy Cheney, Linda Jones, April Lacey, Mike Wing, Hal Loyd, and Bob Ray West. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter in law, Tammy L. Wensch, and cousin, Florence Custer. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM Noon to 1:00 PM Saturday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
