David Homer Wilhelmsen, 69, of Dowling, formerly of Marlette, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at Bronson Battle Creek. He was born April 13, 1947 in Marlette, MI the son of Homer and Elizabeth (Elmy) Wilhelmsen. Dave married Susan Turnquist Hattis on September 10, 1994 in Hastings, MI. David was employed by Waste Management and most recently, L.C. Howard in Kalamazoo, before retiring in 2011. He was a member of the Pleasantview Family Church. David loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting from his deer blind that was built by his son and granddaughters. He was a huge University of Michigan football fan and was lovingly referred to as “Papa Smurf” by his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Susan Christine Wilhelmsen; children, David (Lisa) Wilhelmsen and Amy (Jeff) Stone; grandchildren, Lexi and McKenzie Wilhelmsen, and Ryan, Alyssa, and Jacob Stone; and his brothers and sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 10, 2017 from 12:00-1:00 PM at Pleasantview Family Church with the funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Steven Olmstead officiating. Burial will be at the Dowling Cemetery in Baltimore Township, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to Pleasantview Family Church.
