Walter Doan Nixon Jr.
Walter D. Nixon Jr., age 84, of Battle Creek, died Friday January 13, 2017 at the Bronson at Home Hospice Residence. Walt was born July 14, 1932 in Morgantown, TN to Walter and Viola (Phillips) Nixon and came to Battle Creek after WWII at the age of 16. He graduated Battle Creek Central High School in 1950 and married the former Gladys M. Bonner on June 20, 1954. Walt had been employed by Eaton Manufacturing for 32 years until he retired in 1982. He then sold real estate for Hoffman Realtors and Robbins Realty and drove school bus for the Pennfield Schools for 19 years; he later drove the shuttle bus for Battle Creek Health Systems. Walt was a member of Birchwood United Methodist Church and the Ira A. Beck Masonic Lodge #503 F&AM,theWhite Shrine of Jerusalem, and the Order of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed photography and working with computers. Walter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys, a daughter, Vicky (James) Pierson of Grand Rapids, a son, Jeffrey (Denise Phillips) Nixon, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren, a sister, Shelby Arnold of Battle Creek, and a brother, William Calvin (Eleanor) Nixon of Buffalo, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Ralph and Davis Nixon.
