Obituary for Frederick W. "Fred" Crandal

Frederick W. "Fred"  Crandal
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Frederick “Fred” Crandal, age 83, announces the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend into the Arms of Jesus on Thursday, December 22, 2016 while under Hospice care in Macon, Georgia. .
He was born September 9, 1933 in Detroit, MI the son of Leighton Stanley Crandal and Fannie (Barker) Crandal.
Fred started working for the former Herman Typewriter Service at the age of 16 then bought the business and changed the name to Officeway's which sold office furniture and designed office spaces. He eventually retired in 2000.
He married Sharon Snyder on December 19, 1986 in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Fred is survived by his wife of 30 years: Sharon Crandal of Battle Creek, MI; two sons: Fred Crandal,, III of Ypsilanti, MI; Scott Crandal of Newberry, MI; two daughters: Sherrie Crandal of Sun Lakes AZ; and Chris (Tom) Bowler of Germfask, MI: two stepsons: Shane Snyder of Augusta, MI and Scott Snyder of Richmond Hill, GA; eleven grandchildren: Aaron, Angela, Jim, Tanis. Cassie, Jacque, Cari, Liz, Michael, Krystal and Adam; one step grandson: Shane Frank Snyder of Battle Creek, MI; 24 Great grandchildren; two sisters: Francis Britten of Bellevue, MI and Elsie Hargus of Battle Creek, MI; and a brother: David Crandal of North Carolina.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter: Jean Crandal, and his sister: Judy Crandal Fisher.
Fred graduated from Marshall High School in 1951. He was a member of the Clara's Restaurant Monday luncheon club where he was awarded the “Fisherman of the Year” from his fine group of fellows, member of the Battle Creek Exchange Club (from 1975 until 2005) where he served as President in 1976 and also 1984, was the chairman of the Youth of the Month committee for about 12 years, active in the toothbrush annual sale, active on the service club bowling league with Exchange Club beginning at Sharky Bowl and then at M-66 Bowl, member of the Board of Directors, he was a Life Member and served as Worshipful Master from 1984-85 for 61 Years of the St. Albans Masonic Lodge # 20 F & AM of Marshall..
He was active on the Thursday Senior Golf league at Binder Park Gold Course, member of the Battle Creek Ski Club and had made numerous ski trips in the USA, Europe, Australia and New Zealand with the Battle Creek Ski Club, was an original member of the BC Ambassadors with the BC Chamber of Commerce and a supporter of the Battle Creek Community Foundation.
When they owned Officeway's, they would have an annual Christmas party where all the area businesses in Battle Creek and surrounding area would be invited, they were famous for their "Pickle Party" also, at one point in time Fred prerecorded a birthday greeting as an "Officeway’s commercial" to be played on the radio to personally wish Dave Eddy "The Morning Mayor" a very happy birthday greeting in March.


Visitation will be held December 28, 2016 on Wednesday, where the family will be present from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM and funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM with Pastor Emeritus Richard Wilson, at the Newton United Methodist Church, 8804 F. Drive South, Ceresco; at the conclusion of the funeral service there will be a Masonic Memorial service conducted by the St. Albans Masonic Lodge # 20. Friends and family are asked to join the family following the funeral for a luncheon at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Decatur, Tennessee in the family plot. Memorial tributes may be made to: St. Albans Masonic Lodge # 20 (PO Box 308, Marshall, MI 49066) or the Newton United Methodist Church or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation in Chicago, Illinois.
