Obituary for Barbara Ann Sayers (Kellems)

Barbara Ann Sayers, 63, of Battle Creek, passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born December 17, 1952 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Lonnie and Brownie (Duncan) Kellems, but was raised by her mother and step father, Albert Wood. Barb graduated in 1970 from Lakeview High School. She married Michael Sayers on December 5, 1981 in Battle Creek. Barb started her working career as a Nurse’s Aide for the Battle Creek VA Medical Center. After several years at the VA, Barb began a new career with the Fieldstone Center (known then as the BC Adventist Hospital) as their head nutritionist until she went on disability due to an injury. Barb didn’t let her injury stand in her way and together with her husband they operated the Orchard House Adult Foster Care home in Battle Creek for 25 years. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she and her husband worked on Lenten dinners and Vacation Bible School. She was an avid reader and relished the time she spent with her family. Barb was in her element when in the kitchen cooking.
She is survived by her husband, Michael R. Sayers; son, Raymod (Jennifer) Ostafin; step-daughter, Addie (John) China; step-sister, Linda (Dean) Nielson; and grandchildren, Mitchell Ostafin, Alec Ostafin, John John China, Aubrey China, and Blaec Anderson
She was preceded in death by her parents; step father, Albert; brothers Lonnie and Gary Kellems; and granddaughter, Sydney Anderson.
