Obituary for Merzell Ransey (Peterson)

Merzell Ransey, 69, of Battle Creek, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Battle Creek. She was born December 4, 1946 in Chattahoochee, FL the daughter of Robert and Effie (Ervin) Peterson. She married Willie B. Ransey on July 11, 1969 in Battle Creek. Merzell was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church and participated as an Usher through her church home. She worked for the Battle Creek Federal Center for 32 years before her retirement. Merzell enjoyed traveling, fishing, and shopping.
She is survived by her husband, Willie; daughter, Tawana Spraggins; sister: Margie (Louis) Bryant; sister-in-law, Dorothy (James) Morris; brothers-in-law, Archie (Lula) Ransey and Bonnie Ransey; grandchildren, Erin Hunter, Erica Hunter, Eric Ransey, Jr., and Keianna Ransey; one great granddaughter; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Michael Ransey and Eric Hunter; and her niece, Stacy Bryant.
Visitation will be held Friday from 10:00-11:00 AM at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 11:00 AM with Pastor Timothy Troxler officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI.
Memorial tributes may be made to Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
