Clair “Joe” H. Coy Jr. age 70, of Battle Creek, died Monday October 3, 2016 at his home. Joe was born August 24, 1946 in Battle Creek, to Clair and Betty Jean (Pallett) Coy and was a 1965 graduate of Pennfield High School. Joe served in Vietnam and the Dominican Republic with the US Army 82nd Airborne . He had been employed by the Grand Trunk Western Railroad and later became an independent steel hauler, for over 40 years, retiring in 2014 due to ill health. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Eagles Lodge and enjoyed snow skiing, snowmobiling, boating, camping, hunting and especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Joe was married to the former Beverlen Peck in 1978, she survives. Also surviving are his children, daughters, Shannon Russell of Battle Creek, Nanette (Randy) Derrer, of Taylorsville, NC, sons, Michael J. (Natalie) Coy of Homer, MI, Jon (Dawn) Kent, of Homer, MI, Jerry Kent, of Battle Creek, and Jeffrey L. Kent of Winter haven, FL. 14 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, a sister, Penny Ellis of Battle Creek and a brother, Danny (Doris) Teller of Honolulu, Hawaii. Joe was preceded in death by his parents. The family will receive friends from 1:30PM to 2:30PM at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM Friday at funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday October 11, 2016 at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
