Obituary for
Edward G. Winslow
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Edward Gustave Winslow age 96 announces the passing of our dear father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother-in-law, grand uncle, and friend. Mr. Winslow was under Hospice care when he passed away quietly on Saturday morning, June 25, 2016 at the Bronson at Home Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, MI.
Edward was born October 11, 1919 in Waterbury, CT the son of Gustave A. Winslow and Isabelle (Brown) Winslow.
Edward moved to Battle Creek four years ago to be closer to his daughter and son in law. He had been a craftsman as a maker of wood patterns for the Foate Burte Company in Cleveland, both before World War II and afterwards. He had worked there for over 60 years until he retired in 1984. He had enlisted into the U S Marine Corps as demolition specialist on 9/22/1943 at Cleveland, OH and was honorably discharged on 4/20/1946 at Camp Lejeune, NC.
He had married the former Myrtle E. Milde in Cleveland, OH on June 20, 1944; however she preceded him in death on June 27, 2004.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Ohio for over 70 years. He was a life member of the River’s Edge Yacht Club, enjoying boating and woodworking.
He is survived by his daughter and son in law: Diane E. & Ronald N. Matheison of Battle Creek, MI; sister in law: Ann Brown of Cleveland, OH; Grandniece: Nancy & John Heck of Chardon, OH; three grandchildren: Tracy Matheison, Dawn Katz, Edward Boyce; six great grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter: Janet L. Boyce who died in 1982; a granddaughter: Tammy L. Matheison, and a grandson: Ronnie Boyce.
No visitation is planned at the funeral home. Graveside services with Military Honors will be on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Highland Park Cemetery in Highland Hills, Ohio.
