Obituary for Nathaniel ""Shorty"" Williams






Nathaniel Williams, age 74, of Battle Creek, died Friday June 24th 2016 at Bronson Battle Creek. Nate, known to his family and close friends as “Shorty” was born December 21, 1941 in Rossville, Tennessee to Recell and Velma (Granberry) Williams. Nate was a graduate of the Summerville, Tennessee High School and came to Battle Creek in 1965 from Memphis. Nate had been employed by the Rock Ten Paper Company for 38 years, retiring in 2005. Nate was member of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Nate enjoyed baseball, nice clothing and taking care of his car. He is survived by his stepson, Floyd Mabone of Hawaii, and step grandson Matthew Mabone of Las Vegas, sisters, Iola Walls of Macomb, TN, Fonzia Mae Harper of Memphis, TN, Cynthia and Regina Williams of Detroit, and Louise Martin of California, brothers, Charles (Deloris) Williams of Memphis, TN, and Lacele (Mary) Ward Jr. of Memphis, TN, and a special friend and companion, Rodie Smith, of Battle Creek, his step mother, Lill Williams of Detroit, his ex-wife, Lorean Williams of Battle Creek and many nieces and nephews. Nate was preceded in death by his sister, Alicia Williams of Detroit. The family would like to thanks those who cared for Nate during his illness. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd.
