Joyce Trudeau (Simpson)
Joyce Trudeau, age 71, of Battle Creek, passed away April 3, 2016 at her home. Joyce was born September 25, 1944 in Battle Creek the daughter of James and Ardella (Owen) Simpson. She graduated from Battle Creek High School and obtained her associate degree in nursing from Kellogg Community College and pursued her nursing education at Michigan State University. Joyce met Joseph Trudeau at a church party when he was stationed at Fort Custer Air Force Base, and they married on February 22, 1963. She worked for 29 years at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital and retired in 1997. She then worked at the Calhoun County jail as a Registered Nurse for ten years to financially assist her grandchildren in attending college. She was a volunteer for the Urbandale Food Pantry. She loved helping and being with people. Joyce’s greatest love was her family and grandchildren, she enjoyed sledding with them at Kingman Museum, taking them on walks thru the Kellogg Bird Sanctuary and showing her grandson military aircraft at the Kalamazoo Air Zoo. Joyce and Joseph wintered in Florida and loved to travel together. Their favorite trip was a 30 day tour of the National Parks. She once grew 30 tomato and bean plants in the kitchen as a science project and was very relieved when it was over. Joyce would often give advice to her grandchildren; this was known as her “Pearls of Wisdom”. Joyce is survived by her husband of 53 years, Joseph, her daughters, Sherie Kieffer of Bradenton, Florida and Sandra Trudeau of Battle Creek, Four grandchildren and Three great grandchildren, a sister, Lois French of Battle Creek, who Joyce thought was the world’s greatest sister and best friend. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Ardella Simpson. The family will receive friends from 2:00PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, 223 N. Bedford Rd. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, April 7, 2016 (today) at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Michigan Cancer Center.
