Obituary for Dawn E. Newton (West)

Dawn E. Newton, 48, of Springfield, passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at her home. She was born October 28, 1966 in Battle Creek, the daughter of James and Denise (West) Sharp. Dawn graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. She married Terence Newton on February 16, 2003 in Battle Creek. She was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active in their choir. She had worked for the Grand Rapids and Battle Creek VA Hospitals as a caring and loving CNA. She continued her working career after the VA as a Teacher’s Aide at Dudley and Urbandale Schools. Dawn devoted her life to her family. Her passion was helping children. She poured her love, devotion, and hard work in to children. Dawn enjoyed cooking, planning family functions and spending time with her friends and family.
She is survived by her husband, Terence; children, Marcus Haskins, Nyraya Haskins, DeVoine Newton, Sr., Terence Newton, II, Darrell Newton, and DeShon Newton, Sr.; mother, Denise; step-father, Jeff Rogers; brothers, Michael Bolden, Mark West, James West and Jamar Parker; sisters, Kenika Carson, Kenya Parker, and DeVonna LeBlanc; 12 grandchildren; and a host of brother and sister-in-laws, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, James; her sister, LaToya Parker; and her grandfather, George West.
Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Community Missionary Baptist Church (25 North Woodlawn Avenue) with funeral services to follow at 12:00 PM with Pastor Sheldon B. Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to The Arc of Battle Creek.
