Levada Oliver (Johnson)
Levada Oliver, 95, of Battle Creek passed away Monday, January 5, 2015 at The Oaks at Northpointe Woods. She was born June 6, 1919 in Henny, TN the daughter of Emmanuel and Dorilla (Lee) Johnson. She graduated from Douglas High School in Mounds, IL in 1942. Levada started out working for Percy Jones and then transitioned to janitorial services for 10 years at the Trans-america Towers-Battle Creek until 1984. She worked for OK Laundry and was also a live-in housekeeper and cook for a family in Detroit for several years. She was a very active member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church and held many titles to include; Superintendent of Sunday School, Deaconess, Missionary Society, Pastor's Aide and Sunday School Teacher. Levada would volunteer for anything she could when it came to the church. She enjoyed walking, fishing, reading the Bible and taking care of any pets that were in need.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her niece, Doris Maxine Collins; nephews, James Roberson, Willie and Thomas Johnson; great nephew: Larry Collins; great niece, Linda (Joey) Norwood; and special friend, Josi Roberts.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ezel and John Johnson; and her sisters, Lillie Graves, Mobile Johnson, Maggie Jones and Edna Murray.
Visitation will be held Monday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Unity Missionary Baptist Church with funeral services to follow at 12:00 PM with Rev. LeRoy Smith officiating. Burial will be at the Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Emmett Township, MI. Memorial tributes may be made to the Sunday School fund at Unity Missionary Baptist Church or Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts of America.
