James Clark Grove
James C. Grove, age 81, of Battle Creek, died Friday April 11, 2014. James was born February 21, 1933 in Kinderhook, Michigan to Mearl and Pauline (Bachman) Grove and came to Battle Creek in 1956. James had served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1956. He had been employed by the Battle Creek Foundry, Clark Equipment Co., Springfield Foundry and drove truck for a short time. He retired in 1996. James was active in Boy Scouting, a member of the American Legion Post #298, and the Teamsters. James enjoyed canoeing, camping, and the outdoors. He walked several miles every day and loved having coffee with friends. James was a helpful neighbor and known for his generous nature. He is survived by his daughter, Phyllis (Kevin) Herr, of Battle Creek, sons, Glenn (Linda Kay) Grove, of Battle Creek, and Thomas C. Grove of Irons, MI., nine grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren, step daughters, Roxanne Wallace of Hastings, Carol Ann Mill of Eureka, CA, a step son, Michael Kelly of Delton, 7 step grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Lee Grove, in 1999, a sister, Imogene Grove, and brothers, Edward, Ralph and Richard Grove.
