Obituary for Ida Mae Johnson (Franklin)

Ida Mae Johnson, age 90, of Battle Creek, died Sunday December 29, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Ida was born August 4, 1923 in Senatobia, Mississippi to Herbert and Lena (Hunt) Franklin. Ida married Simmie McClinton in 1933, and to this union was born two daughters, this marriage ended in divorce. She married James J. Johnson Jr. in the early 1970’s. Ida had been employed by the Grandleaders Department Store, Hazel’s Boutique and the housekeeping department at the former Community Hospital for over 20 years. Ida enjoyed gardening, canning and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Ida was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and attended Washington Heights United Methodist Church. Ida is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Fred) Morris and Bonnie ( Michael) Nunnally , both of Battle Creek, a step daughter, Betty Johnson of Albion, grandchildren, Allen (Loretta) Smith and Antuane (Alisa) Smith, great grandchildren, Danasia Smith-Nunnally and Jermel Smith II, great great grandson Daneko Erskine Jr., two step grandchildren, a host of step great grandchildren and Sandra Smith and Brenda Nolan, who Ida thought of as daughters. Ida was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Johnson Jr. in 2007 and her parents, a grandson Jermel Smith, a sister Cotsie Elion and four half sisters. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM to 12 Noon , Friday at the Washington Heights United Methodist Church, 153 Wood St. Funeral services will begin at 12 Noon on Friday at the church. Committal services will be held at 11:30 AM Monday at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service.
